High Vitamin C Fruits

Vitamin C can boost your immune system and help you burn fat faster. Its fat burning power works by speeding up the process of fat metabolism helping you process fat faster for energy. The citric acid that makes up vitamin C also breaks down fat molecules flushing them through the body faster and making it so that they are less likely to accumulate and be stored around your waist, hips, and belly.

Oranges naturally come to mind as a fruit having a high vitamin C content. On average they have about 49 milligrams (mg) of vitamin C per 100 grams. 90 mg is the recommended daily allowance (RDA) of vitamin C for an adult male according to the United States National Academy of Sciences. The average orange weighs about 200 grams, so eating one whole orange will give you about 100 mg of vitamin C, which exceeds the RDA.

guava

Guava is an amazing super fruit that has over four times the amount of vitamin C as the typical orange, 218 mg versus 49 mg. It is also full of omega 6 and 3 polyunsaturated fats (the good kind of fat) as well as fiber. Guava is one of the most nutritious fruits that Mother Nature has to offer and it taste great in weight loss smoothies.

Blackberries have 150 mg of vitamin C, more than three times that of your average orange. They are also full of potent antioxidants and contain a substantial amount of phenolic acids. Phenolic acids are well documented as potent anti-carcinogens, meaning they help to purge your body of all the bad stuff you put in it.

Aranza, also called the Amazonian Pear, has double the vitamin C content (100 mg) found in oranges. This exotic fruit is from the Amazonian jungle in Brazil and Peru and has a tart flavor. You can find it in some markets in the US.




kiwi

Kiwi is another high vitamin C content fruit with 70 mg or nearly 1.5 times that of an orange. Kiwi also has blood thinning properties similar to what you would find with aspirin. They are deliciously sweet additions to any weight loss smoothies.

Ginger can not only add some perk to your weight loss smoothies it is also a great fat burner. Ginger is a vasodilator which means that it improves blood circulation by opening up your blood vessels. Ginger really boosts your metabolism and speeds up your body's fat and calorie burning machine. Several studies actually show that people eating ginger lose over 20% more fat than those that don't.

Oatmeal is high in fiber which is a proven fat burning ingredient, and it is thick and satisfying so it really fills you up and keeps those hunger pains at bay. Oatmeal also helps to stabilize blood glucose levels, lower cholesterol, and can prevent those sugar highs and low crashes you get with processed foods.

The complex carbs in oatmeal are excellent to down in the morning because they provide immediate energy to get you going faster. Also, because it digests slowly, oatmeal can provide sustained energy for many hours and help keep you from getting too hungry too quickly.


Nuts

Nuts are great additions to any weight loss smoothies and excellent fat burners. They also have enough calories and "good" fat content to keep your appetite in check for many hours. Nuts also have a lot of fiber to boost your metabolism and protein which can help build lean muscle mass. Muscle burns more calories faster than fatty tissue.

A study published in the journal "Obesity" showed that people who ate nuts at least twice a week were much less likely to gain additional weight than people who never ate any nuts. Another study in Spain of over 8,000 men and women over two years found that those people eating nuts twice a week were 31% less likely to gain weight that those in the group not eating nuts.

Some of the better tasting and healthier nuts to add to your weight loss smoothies include almonds and walnuts. Almonds have been shown to reduce LDL, the bad cholesterol, by at least 9.4%, and increase the good cholesterol, HDL, by 4.6%. Walnuts contain significant amounts of omega 3 fatty acids which improve artery function. Walnuts were also shown in studies to help protect your body from the detrimental effects of a diet high in saturated fats.


Avocado

Avocado can really thicken up your weight loss smoothies and add some rich taste to it as well. Avocados contain a high amount of unsaturated fat (10 grams) which increases the amount of high-density lipids in your bloodstream. These lipids are called HDL and are what is known as "good cholesterol." The HDL moves through your arteries and sweeps away the bad artery clogging cholesterol.

So in fact foods like avocado that are high in HDL or unsaturated fat will lower your bad cholesterol and speed up your metabolism.



Grapefruit

We had to include this fantastic fruit in its own category because of its specific fat burning and weight loss properties. The tart taste can also provide a nice contrast when you blend up your weight loss smoothies. In a recent study by Dr. Ken Fujioka 100 men and women participated in the Scripps Clinic "Grapefruit Diet." grapefruit The study found that on average study participants that drank a serving of grapefruit juice three times a day lost 3.3 pounds over 12 weeks. Those who ate a half a grapefruit with each meal lost about 3.6 pounds on average.

While grapefruit is high in vitamin C and fiber, the real fat burning ingredient is a flavonoid called naringin. This compound gives grapefruit its bitter flavor and works in our bodies by blocking fatty acids from entering our cells. Ruby Red grapefruit also has lycopene which helps to prevent LDL (bad) cholesterol from clinging to our artery walls and oxidizing.

Grapefruit contains a special fiber called pectin, which has been shown in animal studies to help reduce cholesterol and prevent the narrowing of arteries, which is called atherosclerosis. In a recent study, pigs fed a high cholesterol diet and grapefruit pectin had their arteries narrow 24%, whereas those who got the high cholesterol diet and no grapefruit had narrowing of 45%.


High Fiber Fruits

Fiber keeps your entire digestive system running smoothly and prevents blood glucose levels from hitting those high peaks and valleys that can eventually lead to diabetes. The three fruits with the highest fiber content are blackberries (8.7 grams per 100 grams), blueberries (8.4 grams), and dates (7.5 grams). All of these make great additions to any weight loss smoothies.

Blackberries are also listed in our list of fruits with the highest vitamin C content, so you are getting double the fat burning properties with this fruit.

Blueberries have many other health properties in addition to weight loss and high fiber, including inhibiting the growth of cancer cells, lowering cholesterol, and enhancing memory.

Dates are well known as laxatives and are excellent at reducing cholesterol. They also have a high iron content so they are great blood builders that be used as a natural treatment for anemia. They are also a great source of selenium which is a strong antioxidant that improves the function of the thyroid gland and boosts the immune system.

Skim Milk and Other Low-Fat Dairy Products

Skim milk contains a high level of calcium and it tastes great when added to any weight loss smoothies recipe. Calcium is one of the most popular scientifically proven fat burning boosters. In a recent study two groups of subjects were studied. One group was given several servings of calcium each day and the other was not. All other things were kept the same, including what they ate and their level of activity each day. The group that received the calcium lost almost three times as much weight as the non-calcium group.

Other dairy products that contain a lot of calcium and taste very good in many weight loss smoothies include low-fat vanilla ice cream, and low-fat plain vanilla yogurt. A recent article in Obesity Research Journal talked about women who ate low-fat dairy products three to four times a day losing 70 percent more fat than women who consumed low amounts of dairy products.

Although not a common base for a smoothie, green tea can be substituted for water or juice and you can still have great tasting weight loss smoothies. The health benefits of green tea are numerous and many consider it a dieter's miracle product. It helps to reduce the number of cancer causing free radicals in our bodies with powerful antioxidant properties. Green tea is also a mild diuretic that helps your body purge itself of extra, unneeded fluid.

Green tea has mild amounts of caffeine which can help to boost your metabolism and burn fat. Recent studies show that people who drink 4-6 cups of green tea per day experience greater and more rapid weight loss that those who don't drink any green tea at all.

There is also a chemical in green tea called EGCG that helps to speed up your metabolism and jump start your nervous system and brain and helps your body to burn more calories.

Fat Burner In A Cup Weight Loss Smoothies Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 cups of avocado
  • 1.5 cups of blueberries
  • 1.5 cups of green tea
  • 3 tablespoons of oatmeal

To Make It

Take your blender and start with adding the green tea. If you need to remove any stems from the blueberries do so, and add those with the avocado sliced up. Use your tablespoon to toss in the oatmeal. If you have multiple speed settings on your blender, start slow, then speed up. It will take 30 seconds or a minute to blend all of the ingredients to the right consistency. Using a blender stick can be a huge help to make sure everything gets blended as smooth as possible. Preparation

To make the blending go easier, add all of the low fat milk into the jar first. Chop up the guava and grapefruit and add those next, removing skin and stems and seeds.
