Mangos are sweet and delicious tropical fruits that are native to India and grown throughout the world. About half of all tropical fruits produced in the world are mangos. They are one of the world's magnificent super fruits; rich in vitamin A with 25% of the recommended daily allowance. They also have 76% of the RDA of vitamin C, 9% of the RDA of vitamin K, 11% of the RDA of vitamin B6, and 9% of the RDA of vitamin E. Here are some more interesting and exciting facts about mangos.

  • The Mango tree is considered sacred in India as a symbol of love.

  • Many Hindus believe that the Mango tree has the power to grant wishes.

  • Mangos have been grown in India for over 4,000 years.

  • After planting, a mango tree will start to bear fruit after only 4 to 6 years.

  • In Hindu culture, mango leaves are used in weddings to help promote fertility and grant the couple many children.

  • Sanskrit poets think that chewing mango buds will add sweetness to their voices.

  • Green mangos have a higher percentage of vitamin C. But as the mango ripens and turns yellowish red, the percentage of vitamin A or beta carotene increases.

  • Poison Ivy and Poison Oak are distant relatives of the mango tree. Mango leaves are actually toxic and can even kill livestock like cattle that could accidently graze on and eat a lot of the leaves.

  • All parts of the mango tree, even the leaves, have been used for medicinal purposes throughout history. The mango tree has been known to have anti-viral, anti-septic, and anti-parasitic properties, along with being used as a laxative, aphrodisiac, contraceptive, digestive aid, and hypertension reliever.

  • A substance called mangiferin which is found in the stem bark of the mango tree has been shown to inhibit tumor cell growth.





Get Down Tonight Mango Smoothie Recipe

This mango smoothie recipe will most definitely make you want to put on your boogie shoes and get down tonight. With mangos, watermelon, soy milk and brown sugar, this smoothie will really make your mouth water. If you want this a little thicker, you can blend in some ice as well. Soy milk is a tasty alternative to regular cow's milk, but if you prefer you can use cow's milk. Just make sure you use a low-fat variety to keep the calories down and the smoothie good and healthy.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups - mangos
  • 1.5 cups of watermelon
  • 1 cup of soy milk
  • 1/2 tsp - brown sugar

Preparation

First pour all of the soy milk into the blender jug. Chop up the fruit and add that next, removing skin and stems and seeds if necessary. Add the right amount of brown sugar next. Pick a speed setting on the blender that works best to ensure a smooth mixture. Blend until everything is smooth - generally about 30 seconds. You may need to use a blender stick to push down on the mixture to ensure that everything is blended smoothly. Serve your smoothie fresh, preferably in a chilled glass. Enjoy!





Siesta Blender Mango Smoothie Recipe

This mango smoothie recipe makes for a nice siesta mid-day, afternoon, or any time. The strawberry sherbert will really thicken this smoothie up nice and the blend of mangos, banana, and peaches are really delicious. You also get a real health boost from the mango, which has over 17 amino acids and numerous vitamins and minerals, like 25% of the recommended daily allowance of Vitamin A.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups - mangos
  • 1 whole banana
  • 2 cups of peaches
  • 2.5 cups - strawberry sherbert
  • 2 teaspoons - almond extract

To Make It

  1. Add the frozen sherbert first into the blender.
  2. Take off skins and stems from the fruit as needed and throw the fruits in.
  3. Add in the 2 teaspoon fulls of almond extract.
  4. Start blending slowly and increase the speed as the mixture gets smoother. Everything should be blended after about 30 seconds or so.
  5. Blender sticks are great to move ingredients around to make sure everything is blended evenly.

First throw the strawberry sherbert into the blender jug. Then add the ice. Following that in the blender should be the fruit chopped and de-stemmed or de-skinned if necessary. The nutmeg flavoring should go in next. Select the appropriate setting and speed on your blender. 30 seconds or so is all it should take to blend everything up really well. Fitness Booster Mango Smoothie Recipe
