If you haven't seen the videos of the Blendtec Total blender in action, then you need to check out them out. The company CEO asks the question "Will it blend?" and then throws just about anything into the Blendtec blender to see what happens. They've been really popular on YouTube and certainly boosted blender sales over at Blendtec.

This blender is powerful, and we mean powerful. It is the most powerful home blender on the market today. At 3 horsepower, the engine on this baby can grind just about anything to pulp, or dust, as in the case of the iPhone they tossed in and blended in one of their wacky videos. All hype aside though, the real question you need to ask is do you need a blender this strong. You're not going to be blending golf balls (although, if you have a teenage son, he may just give it a go while you're not around). You'll probably just be using it for smoothies and fruit shakes. So is shelling out $400 (USD) or so worth it for this machine?

If you have ever tried to blend a smoothie with a cheap blender and the result is a concoction with little chunky pieces of ice, then you need this blender. If you've ever tried to stuff a lot of ingredients in a dinky little blender and have the blades just sputter around or the engine even start smoking, then you need the Blendtec.

I can speak from experience that there is nothing worse than a cheapo, weak little blender, that can't handle ice, nuts, or carrots. The pitiful little engine just whirs along trying to blend, but is too weak to get the job done. If you are tired of that, and I know I was, than you need a blender that does not mess around and has the power to get the job done. You need a Blendtec Total blender.

Now, I know that it is the most expensive blender on the market, other than the VitaMix, which is also a fantastic blender (you can't go wrong with either one). But I look at it as an investment and with blenders you pretty much get what you pay for. With the Blendtec Total Blender you are getting the strongest blender on the market that blends all ingredients to perfection and you don't have to waste time waiting for everything to blend.

You are getting quality, the Blendtec comes with a three year warranty on the motor, and there are almost no reports of this machine breaking down in consumer reports and owner reviews. In fact nearly 90% of owners give the blender 4 or 5 stars.

And you are getting some really cool tech features that are easy to use. You can touch just one button for what you are making, a smoothie for example, and the Blendtec engine will automatically speed up or slow down according to the ingredients and stop when everything is blended to perfection. How cool is that? You can just walk away and do something else and come back to drink your delicious smoothie.

So, I would say that if you are in the market for a blender today, why not shell out a little bit more and get one of the best. You won't be disappointed.

The Good

  • Attractive - the blender has a nice clean look and comes in a variety of different colors.
  • Easy to clean - just wipe down the outside and you can clean the jar with dishwashing soap and pulsing it for a few seconds.
  • Good pitcher - the pitcher holds 64 ounces, which is very large, and it is square in shape, which helps with blending and pouring.
  • Good power output - as mentioned, the blender is the strongest on the market for home use.
  • Heavy duty - everything is made strong and built to last.

The Bad

  • Very loud - at 3 hp this thing is not going to be quiet. In one review, an owner, who did love the Blendtec, actually bought earmuffs from a gun supply store - the kind you use at a shooting range! This is a bit extreme, but just keep in mind that when you run this blender you'll probably need to be texting instead of talking. :)
  • No retractable cord - a place on the base to store the cord would be nice.
  • Lacks flexibility in blending time and speed - the machine comes only with preprogrammed settings. If what you are blending is not completely blended during that time, then you have to pulse it to get it done.

Models

The Blendtec Total Blender comes in 3 models:

Model
Average Consumer Rating
Number of Reviews

The model 25 comes with a longer blending blade (4") and a larger jar (almost 3 quarts). It's about $40 more than the model 20. The model 26 comes with everything the 25 has plus an extra 2 quart jar (so you get 2 jars total) for about $90 more than the model 20 and $50 more than the model 25.

The blender is very powerful, with a 3 horsepower engine, something you would expect to see at your local bar. The stainless steel blade spins up to 29,000 rpm (revolutions per minute). It comes with an ice crushing guarantee and a 3 year warranty on the motor, 1 year on the jar, and a lifetime warranty on the blade and coupling.

The Blendtec Total blender features trademarked Smart Touch technology where you just press a button based on what you are blending and the machine takes care of the rest. The preprogrammed settings include a button for ice cream/frozen yogurt, ice crush/milkshake, soups/syrups/fondues, sauces/dips/dressings/batters, whole juice, smoothie. It also has speed up, speed down, and pulse buttons. The blades and engine will speed up and slow down as needed according to the mixture and ingredients you have in the jar and it will shut down when everything is blended completely. Pretty cool!

GoBlendIt Consumer Reviews Summary

Summary of the most helpful positive reviews:
Everyone loves the power. There are no chucks of anything left after putting it in the Blendtec Total blender, everything is smooth and creamy. Most owners like the versatility of the blender as well, saying that it replaces food processors, grinders, and juicers. They also like how quickly it blends ingredients. The size of the blender is also mentioned as a positive. The height is only 15" which allows the blender to fit easily under most kitchen cabinets.

Summary of the most helpful negative reviews:
Most owners think this machine is way too loud. They feel that it should have some type of dampening device or cover to cut down on the noise and vibration. One reviewer thought that the plastic bottom felt kind of cheap for a blender at this price. Also mentioned was that the warranty was not as long as the Blendtec's competitor, the Vitamix, which offers a 5 year warranty. The polycarbonate container also may be prone scratching when blending hard substances like seeds and grains. Another owner talked about needing more flexibility in the blending times. The Blendtec only has preset buttons with set times and speeds.
